25 Mei 2016 | Ethiopië, Gondar

Our last shifts this week before flying home... Time flies when you have fun!

We were so busy with reports, bachelorproof, working nightshift as much as possible that we didn't had the time to report to you, our followers...

Well, what happened the last weeks: we both reach our goal of 40 deliveries, a lot of experiences, sad stories to tell and happy moments..

We delivered stillbirth babies, spina bifida, preterm and all preventable...

But also nice and smooth deliveries, most of the time the multiparae moms, they don't give a sound and sometimes your too late and than it is a 'bed' delivery!

Marrianne's first breech delivery, but not one I was waiting for: the mother with pre eclampsia and the child was preterm(1200grams) for the first time I saw parents crying because the child died... Nobody to comfort them, the child was removed and not seen by the parents, I couldn't stand it, the father could bury the child after I asked it, better than thrown away as garbage... Already the second child they lost...everyday I gone to the parents, asked how they were doing, a bit of compassion.

Unborn babies die unnecesarry because of most rhesus negative woman can't afford an anti D vaccin of 2000 birr comparing to 80 euro. So they will break down their baby...

The Labour ward is in the night one big screaming house....

Marleen found out that a patient during labour had severe pre eclampsia. Doctors said she should had terminate her pregnancy at 6 months but she refused it. She didnt tell us she had pre eclampsia. During labour she a bloodpressure of 220/90 mmHg. She is lucky she is still alive!! She almost offered her life for her child.

On the street they are stil not used to the funny, really white 'farenji' so everyday they are shouting, asking for money, giving handshakes, making annoying noises

We are invited with the nabours, patients, colleagues, shopladies for coffeeceremonies, we will really miss the Ethiopian coffee!!

After 'fasika' (easter) there are a lot of weddings in front of Planet hotel(where we use Wifi and study)

People dancing and singing, making pictures and films...

Streetpicture: walking home after nightshift the city wakes up; a rooster is too late, but still try to wake people with his crow

A lot of birds make noises..

A little boy is standing in the middle of the street, bottom naked, proudly looking as his result of poo were flies having diner...

Little boys running after a horse and carriage trying to reach, one of them jumping on, but the driver uses his whip..

The dog of the nabours welcomes us with his growl, yes, we are home!

Marleen is leaving back home this weekend, we will miss things, but also be glad to go home to our 'normal' life again...!

After coffeeceremonies and saying goodbye to all colleagues and friends we made, Marianne will follow after 1,5 week back home, up to the finals and graduation we hope!!
