19 Maart 2016 | Ethiopië, Gondar

Arrived at our final destination, our hometome for the next three months. A long way to come to Mekelle. What happened thé Last days? Well we will tell you. When we arrived at Gondar, it was à nice place to stay. We were having à lot of fun with other tourists, we shared meals. We were visiting thé royal enclosure, it's à palace from the 14th century where thé emporers lived. There only remaining ruines now. We also visit àn old church, there was a mess going on. So it was nice to join. There are old fresco's on thé wall, showing thé biblical stories. After we said goodbye to our new friends we made thé Last days from all over thé world, We were à bit sad.

Thé next day we did à hike àt siemen mountain. It was breathtaking.

Thé next day we left 4.30AM on our way to Axum by public bus. Well, we really expérienced thé local transport. It was hot, crowded, less space. We were too tall for this kind of transport (even though we are short Européens). You can't imagine what we went through. For 12 hours we were sitting in yoga position and we could'nt feel our buttom anymore. It felt like à desert. We could'nt drink because we there was no restroom. It was horrible. But we survived by making jokes with our Italian friend.

After this local big bus we changed for minibus and yes you understand it right its à MINIbus for two hours. Luca (our italian friend) who is à bit tall was sitting in the hallway. Three people came inside the bus during thé ride, but it was already really, really full. One of thé woman pushed his leg to make some space to sit, but hé could'nt move. Our friend said:" I'm sorry that I have two legs, god gave me two legs. I can't cut one of them, maybe I can survive with only one of them. God created me this way." We were laughing out loud and that's how we survived thé day to Axum. We overstayed thé night in Axum and like à miracle they offered us transport to Mekelle thé next morning. Alright we paid for it but it was more than worth it. When we arrived in Mekelle, Marleen was so tired that she stoppéd at thé wrong floor, she was suprised and a bit scared that her was open and empty. She thought that someone had taken her stuff and kidnappéd Marianne. Very worried she rxun to thé reception, thé woman was walking with her to thé correct room at thé second floor...relieved....Marianne and the stuff was not taken away!  After our arrival we made contact with Dr. Mahmud Abdulkafer from the hospital. It was really nice meeting him. We had dinner together with him and his son and after that we were having à cold beer with friends also from the hospital. So we are making already friends and feeling at home. We are very looking forward to start our internship on monday. But first we have à quiet sunday to prépare ourselves for the internship.
